Veterans Day 2026 — How Many Days Until Veterans Day?
About Veterans Day
Veterans Day is a US federal holiday observed on 11 November each year, honouring all American military veterans — living and deceased — who have served in the armed forces. It originated as Armistice Day, marking the end of World War I at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918, when the armistice between the Allied nations and Germany took effect.
Congress renamed Armistice Day to Veterans Day in 1954 to honour veterans of all wars, not only World War I. Unlike Memorial Day — which specifically remembers those who died in service — Veterans Day celebrates all who have served, including those currently living. Parades, church services, and ceremonies at veterans' memorials take place across the country.
Veterans Day is significant because it falls on the same date as Remembrance Day (in the UK, Canada, and Australia) and Armistice Day (in France and Belgium) — all marking the same 1918 armistice. The poppy is an international symbol of remembrance, worn in the UK and Commonwealth countries; in the US, the official flower of Veterans Day is the red poppy.
